Hector Lavoe ha sido sin duda alguna el mejor exponente de la salsa a nivel mundial.Hector cautivo no solo a la masa popular sino a todo individuo que se atreva a llamarse puertorriqueno, salsero o latino. No ha existido un cantante que logre tan siquiera acercarse remotamente a su sitial de grandeza. Yo como fanatico de la SALSA sufro una gran pena al pensar en su desenlace. He derramado lagrimas, he cuestionado el porque de su destino. Pero tambien he llegado a respetar y aceptar lo que fue la eleccion de Hector. Vivio como quiso vivir y yo como fanatico lo respeto. Dios te bendiga Hector y GRACIAS por brindarme tantos momentos de alegria y felicidad!!

i got to meet hector when i strted getting into salsa, he i believe was a patient at st clairs hospital in the city,.. he was singing in his room and when i past by he asked me for a cigarette,..the guy who was there with him asked me if i knew who he was...i really didn't know who he was until i left the hospital, i was a young ambulance driver at the time( mid 80's)and i had just started getting into salsa deeply, thats when it dawned on me who i justseen and gave 2 cigarettes to. i tried to go back in to get at least an autograph but i had to keep the ambulance moving, it was the time aids hit the epidemic status here in new york, to this day i reget not going back into the hospital to see him again, the next time was in campbells funeral home, saying good bye to the singer of singers, may you rest in peace my brother from my heritage mothers home land,.. que viva puerto rico.

El bravo de la salsa

Although I thoroughly enjoy Hector's music and styling. He is one of my musical influences. I'm just wondering why his musical director for 16 years has no mention in this website. In fact, you have him on film and no mention again. Gilberto "Pulpo" Colon jr was a staple in Hector's life. In giving credit to Hector, one should give credit to the people who got him to where he got. Not just the major names but everyone else. Just saying, if Hector thought of gilberto so much as to give him his nickname "Pulpo", he should at least be mentioned.

Bueno yo lo conoci a este gran hombre debido a que mi mama escucha salsa y el es 1 de sus favoritos,para bailar y para escuchar.Despues por mi mismo vi la pelicula "El Cantante" y me parecio muy buena basada en la vida de este gran cantante.Las canciones son excelentes y las letras bien personales.Yo escucho musica metal pero debo decir que artistas como Hector Laveo le llegan a 1 metalero de alma como yo.Gran perdida de talento en 1 edad tan joven.El se fue pero su musica y su memoria vive por siempre por eso mismo es una leyenda.Ido pero nunca olvidado! Just wanted to send a shout out to all the Hector LaVoe fans and him. Am one from the 70th and saw Hector and Willie, East Chicago, ln.. Greatest concert l ever seen to this point, am 54. Miss him and the music of Salsa. Greatest Music ever, again for me. A down day in my life today, just got layoff as a family counselor here in Broward, Fl. Sad day for over 1800 teacher, counselors, maint. worker, and so on. Yet when l listen to La Voe, l feel no pain. The great days from my past. So Play On, Please!! I really enjoyed when Mar and Jennifer made the movie in his honor. I listen to his music off and on but now because of the movie I now understand why he sang what he did. It was his life story. This music was introduced to me by my parents in the 80s and I can never let go of something so original, Salsa, Hector we miss and love you very much. You live through us, your Boricuas!!!!

Hector in his time was like no other in that he could sing from the heart what he truly felt. In that essence his songs were pure in heart and his audience truly loved him for that. Personally I admired him for his courage and strength to press on for the love of his music and Latino people. Today I miss him dearly but I have his music to press on too and carry me when times are tough. Then again like Hector us Puerto Ricans never stop giving and loving others. Peace and love to all my brothers. We love you Hector...

...en hector lavoe, encontramos cualidades sin precedentes en los expositores de ese genero, y los que vivimos esa epoca saben a lo que me refiero...evidentemente a Hector le dieron un mal manejo los empresarios del mundo artistico de ese momento ya que lo explotaron y se embolsillaron buen dinero a costa de su salud y su problema que tenia con el consumo de drogas producto del ritmo de trabajo al que se vio sometido en ese momento historico de la musica; no me lo imagino en esta epoca de la tecnologia con solo su repertorio, daria mucha preocupacion a muchos expositores de ahora y quizas hasta verguenza con el producto musical que nos han puesto a consumir de muy mala calidad si tomamos como referencia la epoca de Lavoe...Tributos a Hector!!!

with us had he had a bit more self control. Believe me I know for I too suffered because of lack of discipline...
